Composite Insulators Seek Development Amidst Competition

This paper analyzes the manufacturing technology and development level of ±800kV DC disc suspension, post, and composite hollow insulators in my country, concluding that the comprehensive technology of ±800kV DC insulators in my country has reached a certain level. The technical and economic reliability of these insulators was evaluated. Disc suspension porcelain and glass insulators are considered economically comparable, but disc suspension composite insulators are not. Porcelain and porcelain composite insulators are also economically comparable, but porcelain composite insulators are not.

 

To ensure the operational reliability of insulators, it is recommended that 160~420kN double-umbrella type porcelain insulators be prioritized for suspension "I" strings of insulators with very light and light pollution levels, while composite insulators should be used for suspension "I" strings of insulators with medium and heavy pollution levels. It is also recommended to apply a durable anti-flashover coating (PRTV) to the surface of the porcelain components of post porcelain insulators with a structural height of approximately 12m.
