Composite insulators are crucial components in power systems, used for insulating and securing conductors. Their core function is to provide both electrical insulation and mechanical support through the properties of their materials. Compared to traditional ceramic insulators, composite insulators use polymer materials such as silicone rubber as the outer insulation layer, combined with a glass fiber reinforced core rod. This results in advantages such as lighter weight, resistance to pollution flashover, and anti-aging properties, making them particularly suitable for power engineering projects in complex outdoor environments.
Taking a rod-type suspension composite insulator as an example, its design integrates the hydrophobic migration properties of silicone rubber with the high-strength structure of the core rod. The silicone rubber outer insulation layer forms a hydrophobic surface through the organic groups in its molecular chains, effectively preventing moisture penetration and reducing the conductivity of the pollution layer, thereby improving its resistance to pollution flashover.
