The Development History Of Fuses

In the 1880s, Thomas Edison applied for the first patent for a fuse, which functioned as a safety valve in a circuit, thus initiating the history of fuse development. The increasingly widespread application of fuses led to numerous designs, with different industries having different requirements for them. This resulted in a diverse family of fuses varying in shape, size, mounting method, materials, structure, specifications, characteristics, and applications. The development of miniature fuses has undergone four revolutionary innovation milestones. Differences in industry development and environmental conditions across the world have also resulted in many variations in fuses used in different regions. This is reflected in tubular electronic miniature fuse products, gradually forming two major systems: North America and Europe.

IEC 60127-4 universal modular fuses attempted to unify these two systems, taking the first step.

China's fuse industry began in the 1950s, initially copying the Soviet Union's models entirely, resulting in limited variety, outdated structures, and backward testing methods. In the late 1970s, the localization of color television production spurred the development of the miniature fuse industry, and time-delay fuses的 for color televisions began to align with international standards. China's first national standard for miniature fuses, GB9364.-88, adopted the corresponding parts of IEC60127. The revised GB9364-97 and the recently formulated GB9364.4 also adopted the corresponding parts of IEC60127.
