Fuse installation is mainly divided into two categories: printed circuit board (PCB) mounting and mounting using dedicated fuse holders. PCB mounting includes surface mount (SMD) soldering and through-hole (THT) soldering. Standard SMD package sizes include 0402 (1.0×0.5mm), 0603 (1.6×0.8mm), and 1206 (3.2×1.6mm), while high-current types include 2410 (6.1×2.5mm). Common THT fuses include 5×20mm glass tube fuses, with a lead pitch typically of 19.1mm. Fuse holder mounting includes various forms such as panel mounting, PCB mounting, and DIN rail mounting. When designing a PCB, attention must be paid to safety clearances and current-carrying trace widths. Copper is usually not laid under surface mount fuses to reduce heat dissipation.
Power must be disconnected before replacing a fuse. Fuse with the same or lower rated current, the same or higher rated voltage, and the same fusing characteristics (fast-blow/slow-blow) must be used for replacement. Over-specification use or short-circuiting with conductors such as copper wire is strictly prohibited. At the same time, ensure that the fuse is securely installed and has good contact.
Fuses are widely used for overcurrent protection in various electronic and electrical equipment, including but not limited to: power input protection (such as fast charging, adapters), battery terminal and chip power port protection in battery management systems (BMS), overcurrent protection for DC brushless motors, battery pack protection for power tools or household appliances, emergency call systems, and DC input/output protection for industrial control and energy storage systems.
