A fuse cutout is a protective device used on overhead distribution lines to provide overcurrent and short-circuit protection for transformers and other electrical equipment. It combines a fuse link with a disconnecting function, helping isolate faulty sections quickly and safely.
100 Amp cut out means the continuous‑current rating of the cutout base or fuse‑holder assembly (the hardware itself), NOT the fuse‑link rating.
The cutout's insulator, contacts and fuse tube holder can safely carry up to 100 Amps continuously under rated temperature, without overheating or damage.
You can install smaller‑amp fuse links (e.g. 15A,25A,40A,65A) inside a 100A cutout base for transformer / feeder protection.
You cannot fit a fuse link larger than 100A into a 100A‑rated cutout.
