Introduction
A composite suspension insulator consists of three main components:
High-Strength FRP Core
The fiberglass reinforced epoxy core rod carries the main mechanical load of the insulator. It is designed to withstand the tensile forces generated by conductors and line structures.
HTV Silicone Rubber Housing
The housing and sheds are manufactured from high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. Its hydrophobic surface helps water form droplets rather than a continuous water film, supporting reliable insulation performance in wet and contaminated environments.
Metal End Fittings
Galvanized steel end fittings provide the mechanical connection between the insulator, conductor hardware and transmission tower. Different configurations such as ball & socket, clevis & tongue and other customized fittings are available.
IEC 61109:2025 defines composite suspension and tension insulators for overhead lines as products consisting of a load-bearing fiber/resin core, polymeric housing and permanently attached metal end fittings.
